Data Safety

DATA SAFETY & SECURITY

Upcycle takes data protection seriously. This policy explains how customers can protect information stored on electronic devices before handing them over for scrap, reuse or use goods collection.

01
PURPOSE

Our Approach to Data Safety

Electronic devices may contain personal, financial, business or confidential information. Upcycle encourages every customer to take appropriate steps to protect such information before handing over a device for collection.

02
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY

Remove Personal Data Before Handover

Customers should remove personal and confidential information from devices before they are collected.

  • Sign out of personal accounts
  • Remove saved passwords and account credentials
  • Back up important files
  • Delete personal documents, photos and files
  • Remove SIM cards and memory cards where applicable
03
DEVICE PREPARATION

Prepare Your Device for Scrap Collection

Before scheduling a pickup, customers should prepare the device so that personal information is no longer accessible through normal use.

Where supported, perform a factory reset or use an appropriate secure deletion method before handing over the device.
04
STORAGE DEVICES

Hard Drives, SSDs & Storage Media

Storage devices may contain sensitive information even after files have been deleted. Customers should use an appropriate secure data-erasure process where practical before disposal.

  • Hard disk drives
  • SSD storage
  • External drives
  • Memory cards and USB storage
05
CORPORATE DEVICES

Business & Corporate Equipment

Companies are responsible for following their own internal data-security, asset-disposal and information retention procedures before releasing equipment for use goods collection.

Corporate customers should obtain the necessary internal approvals before handing over laptops, servers, desktops, storage devices or networking equipment.
06
COLLECTION HANDOVER

Device Handover

At the time of pickup, customers should ensure that only the intended electronic equipment is handed over to the collection team.

Customers should retain any accessories, documents or storage media that they do not intend to dispose of.

07
DATA SHREDDING

Secure Destruction for Eligible Devices

Where a secure destruction or data-shredding service is specifically offered, the applicable process may include physical destruction or other controlled treatment of eligible storage media.

Data-shredding or destruction services should be selected explicitly where required. Standard scrap pickup should not be assumed to include certified data destruction.
08
DATA LOSS

Backup Your Important Information

Upcycle does not assume responsibility for files, contacts, applications or other information left on a device after it has been handed over for scrap or recycling.

Always create a backup of important information before handing over any electronic device.
09
CONFIDENTIALITY

Handling of Customer Information

Information submitted through the website for booking or service coordination is handled according to the applicable Privacy Policy and operational requirements of Upcycle.

10
CORPORATE COMPLIANCE

Asset Disposal Documentation

Corporate customers may have additional requirements relating to asset registers, disposal records, certificates or internal audit documentation.

Any documentation or certification will depend on the service specifically requested and available from Upcycle.

11
DISCLAIMER

Customer Data Responsibility

The customer remains responsible for ensuring that sensitive information has been removed, backed up or securely destroyed before equipment is handed over, unless a separate data-destruction service has been expressly agreed.
